At Canal Communities Local Employment Service Network we will assist you in getting back into the workforce by helping you to source job vacancies or work related training. We will also provide you with information on how to avail of other options and supports designed to help you get back to work. The Canal Local Employment Service Network complements the work of FAS, the national training and employment authority. Please note that our service is only open to people who live in Canal Communities Partnership area (Bluebell, Inchicore, Kilmainham, Rialto or Islandbridge). WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU Our staff will help you with the following: • Looking for a job • Getting training to suit your needs • Writing a CV • Preparing for job interviews • Getting information on further education • Exploring the self-employment route • Getting a place on a local Job Club • Accessing both FAS and local training opportunities HOW WE CAN BE OF ASSISTANCE TO YOU Getting a Job: our employment mediation service Once you have an appointment with Canal Local Employment Service Network you will meet with a Mediator (member of our staff) who will help you to find suitable vacancies or help you to take up other options. All current vacancies on the FAS jobs database are accessible to the mediator who will also have knowledge of other job opportunities. The Mediator will support you in setting a realistic approach to getting a job or taking up further training or education. Local Training in Goldenbridge Integrated Complex When you become a client of the Canal Local Employment Service you will be eligible to avail of our local training courses. These courses cover Computer skills, Office Skills, Receptionist Training, Computerised Accounts, First Aid, Paediatric Emergencies, Manual Handling and Safe Pass. These certified courses are free to registered clients of the Canal Local Employment Service Network. Job Club We operate a Job Club service in the Goldenbridge Integrated Complex in Inchicore. In the Job Club you will learn how to focus on getting a job. Here, you will not only receive coaching in how to do that, you will also be given free access to resources such as stationery, stamps and the use of telephones, photocopiers and computers. You will also learn how to do interviews and develop a plan of action to get back to work. The Job Club is open to anyone who is ready to work between the ages of 16 to 64 years. The service is free and if you are on social welfare you keep your payments plus you will receive €20 a week expenses while you are on a Job Club Programme. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO AVAIL OF OUR SERVICES If you live in the Partnership area and want to avail of our services, first you have to register with Canal Local Employment Service Network. All you have to do to register is telephone or call into one of our offices and make an appointment to meet with one of our employment mediators. The Service does not have offices in Kilmainham or Islandbridge but if you live in either of these areas you may use our office in Inchicore (see below for details). These include: Community Employment Schemes Community Employment (CE) Schemes are funded by FAS and are generally based in local community projects. The CE schemes provide work and training which relates to the running of the projects and the services they provide. The working week is 19.5 hours and you will be paid a weekly allowance for the duration of the scheme which can be from 1 to 3 years. Canal Local Employment Service Network will also assist you in sourcing a CE placement. At the moment there are 9 CE schemes in the Partnership area employing more than 280 people. CE schemes were set up to assist people who are long term unemployed and other people who are on various welfare benefits, for example Lone Parents. Self-Employment If you want to explore setting up your own business our Enterprise co-ordinator will help you with business planning, taxation and how to get funding. After you start up a business the Enterprise Co-ordinator will continue to provide support if you wish. Back to Work Enterprise Allowance Scheme The Back to Work Enterprise Allowance Scheme provides you with financial support over a two year period while you establish your business. During this period you may also be allowed to keep some of your welfare and health board benefits. The basic qualification is that you must be at least 12 months unemployed and be setting up a business approved by our Enterprise co-ordinator. Back to Education Options There are various options available for unemployed people to go back to education varying from doing your Junior Cert and Leaving Cert or indeed going on to 3rd Level.
