Employment Task Force Last March the Partnership organised a well attended seminar on Responding to the Unemployment Crisis in the Canal Area. Following on from suggestions made at the seminar the Partnership has now set up an Employment Task Force for the Canal Area.
The aim of the Task Force is to find realistic ways of improving opportunities, introducing new services and improving existing services for people who are out of work whether they are newly unemployed, long-term unemployed, young or old, men or women, people with disabilities or people who need other supports to get back to work or education.
The Task Force, which is made up of representatives from Business Interests, FAS, VEC, Partnership, Local Community Interests, SW Dublin Volunteer group, IBEC, Employ Ability, the Department of Social Protection and the Local Employment Service, has already met to look at the current breakdown of unemployment in the area and to consider what services and opportunities are currently available. As a result, a number of small working groups have been set up to pool knowledge, experience and ideas to come up with a number of achievable actions which will improve the situation for people who are currently unemployed.
